Trees sequester carbon and remove it from the atmosphere. Cottonwoods accumulate carbon very rapidly, especially compared to standard, slower growing hardwood species.

By year 10 a cottonwood stand will contain significantly more tons of carbon per acre than a standard mixed hardwood stand. The carbon stored in the cottonwoods could provide more and earlier income from the potential sale of carbon credits.
