PLANT
Planting Process (December - March)
- Identify sources of high quality planting stock.
- Soak cuttings in water for at least 12 hours before planting.
- Planting should not occur until subsoil trench has filled with moist soil.
- Plant one cutting at each intersection of the mark-off rows
and the subsoil trenches. (12 x 12 spacing)
- No more than 4 inches of the cutting should show above
the top of the soil in the trench.
- Apply a pre-emergence herbicide treatment after planting but
before bud break. (The pre-emergence treatment will kill winter
vegetation and hold spring vegetation, giving the cottonwoods a
good start in growth.)
